Outcomes this update helps customers achieve
Leverage project scalability and collaboration: Different artists, departments, and studios need to be able to efficiently scale and collaborate on projects in the eleventh hour. With the cloud, Flame artists can be up and running in minimal time and collaborating with multiple Flames from just about anywhere.
Deliver incredible visual effects faster: Studios need a complete creative solution to meet growing audience demands. Whether artists need to bring a massive CG monster to the streets of NYC or add digital makeup to the next big music star, Flame’s diverse toolset allows them to blaze through projects at incredible speeds.
Increase the number of creative iterations: Artists want to make more artistic decisions without being bogged down by the technical aspects of production. With cloud deployment, they can access powerful modern hardware without the time and capital expense of purchasing it. Image courtesy of Bilali Mack, Jessie Reyez Love in the Dark
New capabilities
Flame on the AWS cloud
Artists can now experience the Autodesk Flame Family of products on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform. This new way of consuming Flame acts as an alternative to using on premise Linux workstations or local macOS desktop systems. This brings huge gains to artists and studios as AWS offers a scalable and secure environment with a wide selection of compute and storage services.
Leveraging Flame on the cloud comes with several production benefits. Flame on the cloud allows users to add and remove capacity in crunch times, without the need to add more hardware to their local site. Artists gain access to powerful modern hardware without the capital expense of purchasing it. By running Flame on the cloud, an artist from just about anywhere can connect to a Flame instance and be up and running in minimal time and contributing to their project.
Autodesk has several charter production testers who have successfully completed projects in this new way of working.
Enhanced HDR user interface
As computer monitors with high dynamic range (HDR) capabilities are becoming more widely available, the adoption for these types of monitors becomes increasingly favourable for artists.
A new HDR user interface (UI) setting available in Setup optimizes Flame’s user interface on an HDR display monitor, allowing artists to view and manipulate vibrant, high-quality imagery in HDR fidelity in context on their main graphics display.
For example, specific LG UltraFine OLED Pro or Dell Ultra Sharp monitors, Apple Pro Display XDR, or the new 2021 MacBook Pro, can display ST2084 (PQ) inputs at their respective brightness’, and Flame’s colour management, correctly configured, shows that HDR fidelity in the artist’s primary viewport, as well as simultaneously displays a separate HDR broadcast (SDI or HDMI) external preview if attached.
This update brings the quality and mapping to artists’ primary computer display monitor, allowing for both the viewport picture and background interface (buttons, canvas, widgets, etc.) to be appropriately viewed together on an HDR capable display. Several of Flame’s legacy creative tools have also been modernized to allow HDR artist viewing.
Improved Animation Editor
The Animation Editor panel has been redesigned to bring artists who manipulate animation curves enriched animation workflows. The terminology for certain drop-down menus and buttons have also been updated to industry standards such as: Channels to Curves, and Tracks to Dope Sheet. Framing and filtering animated curves is also more intuitive and the selection of points in complex graphs has been fine-tuned so artists can work more swiftly.
Apple M series support
Flame 2023 and 2022.3 support Apple M series devices, offering new hardware options and improved performance for artists. For more information on hardware specifications, please call us +49 40 8515070.
